Workshop 2
Hair by Hood - by Alix Bizet from Design Museum on Vimeo.
I held a series of workshops at Northwood School and Harris Academy in Peckham during my residency at the Design Museum. With the selected students, we collected hair in some precise area, a single postcode, and collected hair from the local hairdressers and the stories of the communities. This idea of mapping was to offer to a class a better understanding of the diversity of individuals living around them but also to create a bridge and more visibility between the museum and some less central communities which do not have access to cultural institution.
With the hair collected, I introduced the students to wet felting and we designed a hoodie made of the hair collected in a precise postcode with the different technique matching the hair type and a precise local identity.
